Elon Musk recently announced a new artificial intelligence firm, xAI. The firm has several engineers from top companies like Google and OpenAI. Yet, Musk posted earlier that he believed AI developments must pause and the officials should formulate regulations. Although it is still unclear about the funds he invested into the entity, Elon thinks the company will help understand AI reality. It is still unclear what AI type and objectives the firm will pursue.
XAI's official website explains that the company aims to understand the real universe's nature. Meanwhile, they have scheduled a Twitter Spaces chat on 21st July to help reveal further information about the company. Elon Musk was one of the founders of OpenAI, which created ChatGPT, a famous significant language tool popular in writing tasks. But his relationship with the firm soured when he criticized ChatGPT for liberal bias.
While insisting on the need for a ‘Truth GPT,’ Elon disagreed with ChatGPT's close relationship with Microsoft. He said in the interview that it appears weird that a nonprofit start-up that is open source is now transforming into a profitable closed source. He signed the open letter suggesting a pause for Giant AI Tests in March, with the number rising to 33,000 signatures. He also highlighted his concerns about AI safety over the past ten years.
Musk recommended a regulatory organization that would help by overseeing artificial intelligence security and its dangers to the public. In any case, he was worried about the data AI companies use to train their tools. He explained that software ought to learn human interaction by scraping large volumes of data from different sources to fuel interaction styles and knowledge. Thus, he vowed to seek compensation for the data these tools scrape from Twitter.
In general, Elon bought the Twitter microblogging platform through a billions-deal before making impactful changes that led to protests. Actor Stephen Fry, model Gigi Hadid, Shonda Rhimes, and Grey’s Anatomy are some public figures who protested on Twitter. But experts believe xAI might be doomed for failure claiming that the law of physics diminishes it. They say that Musk's motivation was to develop a safe AI standpoint and not to make a profit.
Above all, they phrase his ambitions as a laudable goal since attempts to understand the universe's nature are doomed due to the lack of a ground-truth knowledge center. Humans might have the aptitude to understand the universe, but the universe is vast. Others believe you cannot confirm reality through simultaneous measurement or observation. Most importantly, universal knowledge is expanding at a rapid rate.
